Y’all, I just got back home from an incredible week at the Clarity to Courage Conference that was hosted by Avery Forrest. I am overwhelmed by how amazingly God is working in the lives of women all over the world. I was able to meet dear online friends for the first time in person, and let me tell you, in person is sooo much better than doing life online.
While I was there, we had the most incredible worship services, and the speakers just delivered powerful Christ-Centered messages again and again. The really neat thing that there were these unintended threads that spoke of building a Kingdom legacy woven into what was shared throughout the whole event. It was beautiful. Again and again, I just felt absolutely blown away by the amazing God I serve. His riches really are boundless. When His people come together in unity, amazing things happen.
This brings me to my friend Cate. Her husband and she have three kids and one on the way. God laid it on their hearts to host Ukranian orphans in their home this Christmas through an organization called, “Host Orphans Worldwide.”
You see, in Ukraine, when it was formerly the Soviet Union, the government was corrupt and it exercised oppressive power over its people. For obvious reasons, people who are drunk are easier to control, so the cost of alcohol was reduced considerably to the detriment of the people and for the power of the government. The Soviet people indulged at their expense. 30 years later, even with their country having independence, the sins of the fathers have visited their children, and many adults are addicted to alcohol and drugs. It’s estimated that 250 children enter Ukranian orphanages daily. Many orphans just end up on the streets.
Pause and think about your own kids. Powerless. Abandoned. Defenseless. Hopeless.
Of the orphans who grow up in the orphanages, they are pushed out to fend for themselves by the time they turn 16. 80% end up in prostitution, crime, drugs, jail, or committing suicide. Climbing out of this desperate situation is impossible. In society, orphans are seen as the scum of society, and their opportunities to survive are grim.
The Church must intervene.
This brings me back to my friend Cate. 4 of 6 orphan siblings will be staying with them during Christmas break. While we may not be able to stop the entire Ukranian orphan crisis single handedly, we can make a difference in these 4 siblings’ lives by giving them hope and a chance to know what it is like to live in a home with Jesus, love, and food. This is HUGE.
Cate has a deadline to raise $4,400 for their journey here by this Monday, November 1. $4,400 more will be due by December 1.
