Washed by Grace
The waves wash over you as sure as the dawn of each morning's wake. You feel their rhythm- become worn by their friction. You don't know whether to give in or to fight, so you stumble back and forth. Inconsistency is what you have become. Just when you are sure you will be drowned by the force that they bear, the Lord says, "Enough." The tide goes out and you breathe in the fresh air.
Exposed by your weakness but reveling in saving grace, you realize the waves were smoothing over your rough places. The trials you so hate were doing a purifying work that was greatly needed. Yes, you are worn for their wear. There is no guarantee that your troubles are over. Life's storms will send waves again.
Yet, the world doesn't need saints that have never seen trouble. It needs those who have been refined by the Master's faithful hands. You are ready now to comfort the hurting because you have felt the strain of pain's grasp.
The diagnosis you dread may be your salvation. Your child's disability that shatters your life's plans is able to tell a greater one. Your broken marriage offered to our Father in grace is a better romance than the one most novels tell. Your words spoken ill remind you of how short you still fall but can point you back to the One who is forever blameless.
Your life is not your own, but it can proclaim the story of the One to whom it belongs. Jesus is its author, your Lover, Your Savior. Let Him do His work dear one. He is faithful. He will not waste your pain. Then, when you have relief, reach out with strengthened hands and comfort those who still ache.
2 Corinthians 1:3-5
3 Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort. 4 He comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction, through the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 5 For as the sufferings of Christ overflow to us, so through Christ our comfort also overflows.
